Welcome to the website of Donald W. Grobe. I consider this site a contribution to the members and friends of the Church of the Nazarene. I felt the leading of the Holy Spirit to write this manuscript and in 1989, I videotaped and interviewed many pioneers of the early Nazarene Church.
The history in this manuscript dates back to the beginning of the church when in the early 1900’s, Dr. Phineas F. Bresee, our founder, felt the call to preach the message of Holiness. Rev. W. C. Wilson, my grandfather, an evangelist and pastor in the Methodist church heard about Dr. Bresee and his work and in 1902, Wilson left Kentucky and moved his family to the West coast to meet and work with Dr. Bresee in California.
I feel it a great privilege to be a member of one of the families involved in the beginning work of the church. I interviewed my mother, Deborah Grobe in 1989. She was one of the last Nazarenes to have a personal contact with Dr. Bresee. When I interviewed each of the individuals mentioned in this manuscript I could sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives as they gave their testimonies. I felt it was important for the church to hear these testimonies and see how God worked in each of their lives over the span of four generations.
I want nothing from my work but to share the history of our church, the witness of our early pioneers and blessings of the Lord with all who read it.
